About Counselling

Counselling and Training Julie Newberry Trying to talk about personal things which are private, upsetting or that you can't explain can feel awkward, embarrassing, risky and can be immensely difficult. I have been trained to help you share whatever troubles you are experiencing, even when they are 'un-formed' and you feel you don't have the right words.

How often do you get personal time where you are listened to and where the focus is just on your own issues? When you don't have to be concerned about the listener. This enables you to share your thoughts, feelings and emotions; and 'to meet yourself'.

Counselling is helpful if you feel 'stuck'. You may be anxious, depressed, lonely, lost, angry or any one of a range of feelings.  Counselling is not about providing solutions; instead I will help you discover your own strengths and inner resources, thus enabling you to cope effectively with your life.

I understand that it can be hard to make a start, but you can be sure that I will always respect your needs and that progress will be one step at a time. At no point will you be pushed into anything that is too uncomfortable.

You may have just the one session and find that is enough for you. However my experience shows that an average of 12 sessions are needed for you to feel a longer term benefit. We will discuss this when we meet and you will always be free to choose when to leave. I will always remember that it is 'your' therapy.

Each session is 55 minutes long and costs £50.

I follow the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and am subject to their professional conduct procedure.
